The use of solid models cuts costs and new product development lead-times |
 |
Three-dimensional (3D) computer-aided design (CAD) software is used to create product models and to design the OEMs' gaskets with more precision and confidence.
Based on known characteristics such as bolt loading, flange stiffness, and fluid pressure, ISI employs CAD to design in more gasket parameters than just shape. ISI application engineers for example can specify thickness, type of material, wall widths, surface coatings, etc., to ensure that gaskets will function properly in flanges. |

ISI Expands Design Capabilities with Finite Element Analysis Modeling

With demonstrated proficiency in the computer design of gaskets using solid CAD models of joints, FEA modeling is also employed to analyze most applications. The use of FEA technology allows full stress analysis of an entire joint at one time, looking particularly at compression of the gasket, shear stresses that could damage the gasket and internal pressure that could cause blowouts. |
